Leadership
Blaine BPA has had a rich tradition of stressing leadership to its
members. We are leaders in BPA, school, and in the community. We really try
to be active
and strong leaders in all that we do. In BPA we are very active not only
on the Local level, but also on the Regional, State, and National levels. This
past
year Blaine had two state officers. One of our past state officers was Angela
Gray. Angela was the State Executive President, our second year in a row
for
having the State President in Minnesota! Blaine BPA has had eight state officers
since 1999. In school we feel we are leaders also. This past year we had
several of the high school sports captains in BPA. We set a good example for
our fellow
students by running many service projects.
In the community we are also active leaders. We coordinate service projects
that will benefit different groups in the community. Also, we have important
jobs in the community as accountants, bankers, para legals, administrative
assistants and many other similar jobs that require us to be leaders.

Blaine BPA Leadership Opportunities
Project Chairs: Blaine BPA conducts 10-12 projects each year. Each of these
projects requires two chairpersons. As a chairperson you gain numerous leadership
experiences.
Local BPA Officers: Blaine BPA has eight local officer leadership roles.
Local officers include: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer,
Parliamentarian, Historian, and two Editors. Officers will attend the State
Fall Leadership Conference and will assist with our 4 – 6 local chapter
meetings—in addition to their responsibilities related to the office
held.
Regional BPA Officers: Each year Blaine BPA participates in the Fall Regional
Conference where Region 4 Officers are elected. Candidates learn what it’s
like to campaign for office. Elected officers are responsible for the Region
4 Meetings. Blaine has had the opportunity to have one or two Regional Officers
every year. The 2011-2012 Region 4 Vice President is Nan Vang and the Historian is Hlee, both from our local chapter of Blaine.
State BPA Officers: BPA offers students an opportunity to run for and serve
as a State Officer in Minnesota. Blaine BPA has had ten State
Officers in the past 11 years. For the 2011-2012 school year, Blaine BPA has two State Officers - Dallin Ingalls, State Parliamentarian, and Jacob Sparks, State Treasurer. Two of these officers have been the State
Executive President, Ryan Montgomery 2003 and Angela Gray 2004. Campaigning
takes place during the State Fall Conference in the Minneapolis area. Six
officers are elected each year to represent the nearly 3,000 Minnesota BPA
members. This is another excellent opportunity for students to see and learn
more about leadership. State Officers have numerous responsibilities with
Public Relations and Regional/State Meetings. Other former Blaine State Officers
include: Beth Krause 1999, and Matt Mehmen 2000, Ryan Johnson 2001, Tim Ozerkov
2005,
Chris Iund 2007, and Frankline Awasom 2007.
National BPA Officers: The National BPA organization also has student officers
elected at its National Leadership Conference in the spring each year. Officers
serve as liaisons between the National Headquarters and individual states.
Once again, this is another tremendous leadership opportunity. Blaine BPA
had a National BPA Officer in 2000, Saralyn Niemi.
